Dolphin’s top junior swimmers are currently competing with the country’s best in their
age group at the ASA National Age Group Championships (Bagcats) in
this week. Ponds Forge International
Sports Centre is hosting the four-day event which takes place from 23rd-26th July
and sees up to 700 junior swimmers participating in the competition.
Cathal Westman – Finalist
Cathal
Westman (14
years) was Dolphins most successful swimmer and the only finalist on day one, finishing
in eight place in the final of the boys’ 100m breaststroke. He
set a personal best in the heat and improved it further in the final coming home in
1.12.51.
14 year
old Tim
Berry,
competing in his first Nationals, was fourteenth in the boys’ 200m butterfly
clocking a personal best time of 2.20.74 while his sister, 11 year old Samantha,
also a debutant, put in good performances in the girl’s 400m individual medley and
200m freestyle. Samantha was unable to
reproduce her outstanding form from the Regional Championships finishing twentieth
in the medley and thirty first in the freestyle.
Rosie
Wells (13
years) was twenty fourth in the girl’s 100m backstroke.
Day two
sees James
Clark (12)
take the stage in the boys’ 400m IM, and Liam
Herbert (13)
joins
Westman

Berry
, and Clark in
the 4X100m Medley relay.
