Swindon
Dolphin Masters’ swimmer, Rowie
Meers asks
Dolphins to support the Your
Day Foundation cycle ride from Lands End to
John O’Groats which starts this Thursday, 25th of October.
The Your
Day Foundation is
a trust set up in memory of her husband, Alex
Meers,
the aim of which is to represent a positive impact on the younger generation.
In
2005 Alex was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and despite a courageous fight
he unfortunately died in May 2006, leaving Rowie and three daughters, Imo, Tilda,
and Lilly (all
Dolphin swimmers).
The
to John O’ Groats Bike Ride Challenge is the first of many such adventures aimed at
raising money for the foundation. This year the money raised will be split between
3 charities – Children With Leukaemia, The Soil Association’s new Apprenticeship Scheme
and The Ellen MacArthur Trust (along with the charity that inspired Ellen, “A Chacun
Son Cap” for those sponsoring in France). It is hoped that over the years the foundation
will grow and that other challenges will be taken on by the following generation –
Alex’s children, nephews and nieces and their friends and families.
