Swindon Dolphin had an
opportunity to assess their early season form at the ASA South West Regional Championships
over the weekend. Head Coach, Andi Manley was
reasonably satisfied with his squad’s progress as they returned to their Milton Road
base from the long course meet with two new National Qualifying Times, and 1 Junior
and 3 Senior Championship titles.
Mel Agius – 2 NQTs

Sixteen year old Melanie
Agius was the star
of the show for Dolphin, securing in the 400m freestyle, a NQT and club record of
4.30.54 on her way to bronze in the women’s open. Her second NQT came in the 800m
freestyle when she posted 9.16.46 to win silver. Agius was
also third in the 200m freestyle.
Chris
Jones took the plaudits in the men’s open breaststroke winning the 50m,
100m, and 200m championships. Dolphin also won the 50m breaststroke junior event with Cathal Westman (14
yrs) triumphant. Westman went on to take second
place in the 100m breaststroke Junior Championship.
In other breaststroke
events, Elizabeth Beckett (14 yrs) put in excellent
performances, finishing third in the
200m Junior Championship and sixth in the 100m women’s open final, while Nigel Masters was
fourth in the men’s 50m sprint.
Other notable achievements
included fifth places in the 100m butterfly for Tilly Gray (15
yrs) and in the 50m backstroke for Jon Audis.
Audis was
also seventh in the 50m butterfly and eighth in the 200 backstroke.
Nicholas Southern – Club Records

The highlight of 16
year old, Nicholas Southern’s successful weekend
was recording long course, club records in the 800m and 1500m freestyle.
