Chris Jones
Well done to Chris Jones who was recently named Wiltshire ASA Male Swimmer of the Year.
Among the most memorable achievements of his season so far are his gold medal in the 100m breaststroke and his silver in the 50m breaststroke at the British Championships in March. He subsequently became the 50m breaststroke National Champion in August, recording a Scottish record on his way to gold.
He also set county records in 33m, 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke events during the 2006/2007 season and claimed short & long course, 200m breaststroke world records in the 25-29 year age group at major Masters’ competitions.
Chris is now preparing for the Olympic Trials next year and looking forward to the season ahead.
Dolphin Chief Coach, Andi Manley said “this is a great honour for Chris to be recognised by Wiltshire ASA as Male Swimmer of the Year. He is now in a very heavy phase of winter training in the build up to the 2008 British Championships in April, which are the Olympic Trials for the British team. His current personal best time for the 100m breaststroke is just 0.6 seconds short of the Olympic Qualifying Time, which is well within his grasp. The big challenge for Chris will be to finish in either first or second place at the trials as only the top two swimmers can be selected for each event. The next twenty weeks
are therefore crucial.”
