Swindon Dolphin’s fine winning streak came to an end when the team played Bristol last Thursday. Hit by a number of late withdrawals, the Milton Road water polo squad travelled to Bristol with only 9 players to compete in one of the biggest swimming pools in the league and though they put in a strong performance they were eventually beaten by a side with superior fitness. Dolphin’s first half performance was impressive and they only trailed by one goal at half time. The students managed to keep their slender lead in the second half and in the final stages of the match extended it by one to win.
Goals came from Diogo Monteiro (3), Andy Hicks (2), Michal Trzeciak (1), Chris Selby (1) and Mark Lawlor (1).
Lawlor commented after the match “we were always in this match and if we had our full quota of players we feel we could have come away with a result. We need to work hard on our fitness for these big matches.”
Dolphin’s next match is Thursday 15th May away to a Welsh Wanderers II team.
