Swindon Dolphin A team made a good start in Division 1 of the Wiltshire Moonraker Summer League on Saturday night at Trowbridge, finishing in first place, 25 points ahead of the hosts, with local rivals Tigersharks A in third. Securing 24 wins and 14 seconds in the 50 event gala, Dolphin will be particularly satisfied that they had considerable success across all the age groups.
There were 2 individual wins each for Lauren Matthews in the Girls’ under 12 years 50m freestyle & backstroke; Liam Herbert in the Boys’ under 16 100m freestyle & backstroke; and in the Men’s Open age group for Jon Audis (100m back & breast) and Chris Jones (4×1 Individual Medley and 100m free). Jack Janicki, Niall Westman, James Clark, Cathal Westman, Elizabeth Beckett, Mel Agius, and Tilly Gray all won one race apiece.
In the relay events the Boys’ under 12s, under 14s & Open foursomes, and the Girls’ Open quartet were unbeaten.
Results:
Swindon Dolphin A – 157 Points; Trowbridge -132; Tigersharks A -130; Chippenham – 79
Meanwhile, at the Link Centre, the B team were in action against Bradford-on-Avon, Salisbury and Tigersharks B. The Boys’ under 12s squad of Craig Lofts, Alex Chantler, Lewis Ford, Jon Fouracre and Adam Coleman were in top form coming home first in both relays but unfortunately were disqualified in the medley event. In the individual swims, Chantler and Lofts won the freestyle and butterfly respectively, with creditable second places from Lofts in the backstroke and Coleman in the breaststroke.
Dani Harris fought a close battle in the Girls’ Open 100m butterfly with a strong finish just touching out her Bradford-on-Avon opponent. Also in the Girls’ Open category Clare Gamble, making her debut for Dolphin, finished a close second in the backstroke. A convincing win in the Boys’ Open medley relay was welcome consolation for only managing lower placings in their individual swims.
There were also wins for Andrew Butler in the under 14s 50m backstroke and Lily Waite in the under 12s 50m freestyle.
Results: –
Bradford-on-Avon – 158 points; Salisbury – 129; Swindon Dolphin B – 111; Tigersharks B – 99
Lily Waite – Won 50m Freestyle
