Swindon Dolphin water polo team suffered another league defeat away to Welsh Wanderers II at the new Cardiff International Pool last Thursday, losing by 10 goals to 8. The Milton Road side started poorly, conceding four goals without reply in the first quarter but raised their game and managed to draw level by half time. In the second half, the teams were more evenly matched, frequently cancelling out each another’s scores though the Welsh side finished stronger holding out for a 2 goal win.
Diogo Monteiro, a recent newcomer to the team, scored 4 excellent goals, Michal Trzeciak bagged 2 with Andy Hicks and David Quinlivan both getting on the score sheet with 1 apiece.
Monteiro commented afterwards – “unfortunately, we did not have much time to prepare properly for this match as we arrived within minutes of the start and took a long time to settle into the game. We set ourselves high standards in previous fixtures but we did not achieve them today – we must do better.”
Dolphin’s next match is on Sunday 1st June at home to Bristol University.
