Swindon Dolphin travel to Belgium this weekend to take part in an international water polo tournament. The event held annually in Hasselt, is in its 26th year and attracts teams from all over Europe including Holland, Germany, Scotland and England. 48 men’s and 16 women’s teams are competing.
The tournament is run over two days, Saturday and Sunday, with each team playing at least five matches lasting the equivalent of half a normal game. Four games take place simultaneously in a 50m pool split into 4.
Water Polo secretary Matt James explained that “Dolphin competed in this competition for the first time last year and performed well enough to be invited back” and feels it is “excellent preparation for forthcoming National League games.”
