Event: Bristol and West League Fixture
Teams: Newton Abbot I v Swindon Dolphin
Location: Teignmouth Lido
Date: Sunday 21st September 2008
Swindon Dolphin’s good run of form in the league continued with a well earned away victory to a strong Newton Abbot first team. Dolphin won the encounter by a single goal.
The first half of the match was a real close affair. Abbot were slightly quicker out of the blocks and held a narrow one goal advantage at the end of the first period. Dolphin replied strongly in the second period with the score at half time all tied at four each.
Dolphin earned their victory in the third period of this exciting clash although the home side did help. Abbot marksman and Swindon Dolphin National League player Andy Margetts picked up his third personal foul which excluded him from the rest of the encounter. With this significantly hitting Abbots goal threat, Dolphin made their move and built up a significant lead.
In the final period Abbot fought back strongly but left themselves with far too much to do and Dolphin held on for an impressive victory.
The usual Dolphin suspects scored – Andy Hicks, Michal Trzeciak and Matt James scored on three occasions and David Quinlivan added a single strike.
James Godden commented after the fixture “The performance was encouraging, we played some excellent Polo. We are confident of a strong finish to the league this year which will put us in good stead for next season; as well as the rest of our National League campaign.”
Swindon are back in National League action this weekend in Sheffield where they face Newcastle, RAF as well as the top of the table clash against Bristol University.
