Swimming Skills to the Fore at Novice Gala

Event: Small Pool Novice Gala 2008
Venue: Link Centre Swindon
Date: Saturday 27th September 2008

Last Saturday evening saw Swindon Dolphin’s young hopefuls compete at the Link Centre in the annual Small Pool Novice Gala.  For many, this was their first taste of competition at an event run within ASA rules and a full complement of officials in attendance.

With commentary provided throughout the evening by Swimming Development Officer, Steve Cryer, the fine swimming performances did not disappoint the large number of spectators present.  The skills taught within the Swim Channel program were clear to see as all competitors fought for places in some close run races across the 25m sprint distance.

Top boy performances were from Kyle Suthers (four gold), Henry Maxwell (three gold, one bronze) and James Chantler (three gold).  Jack Patey also swam well picking up two gold and two silver as did six year old Kieran Jefferies who finished first in the 7/under backstroke and freestyle.  In the girl’s events, Charlotte Brooker and Emma Prunty won a clean sweep in their age categories with four wins each.  Amy Connaghan was just behind on three gold and one silver, and there were fine performances from Denice Gardo (two gold, one silver) and Kayleigh Bartlett (two gold).

Full results are available here.

This event not only provided many swimmers with their first swimming gala experience, but also gave some supporters a chance to get in on the action and try their hand at being an official for the evening.  The Club is continually seeking  help from parents and friends to assist with these and various other tasks.  If you are interested in helping in any way, please ask any of the poolside volunteers for more information.
