Teams: Swindon Dolphin v Bristol University
Location: Milton Road – Swindon
Date: Sunday 31st May 2009
Swindon Dolphin’s dip in form continued as they were beaten at home by two goals to Bristol University. The result means that a mid table finish in the Bristol & West first division is now highly unlikely with two extremely tough fixtures remaining.
Swindon started the fixture slightly better than the students. Despite conceding the first goal of the game they came back strongly and led by a single goal. The second quarter was where things started to go wrong and poor decisions made on a number of occasions led to shots being missed and the students counter attacking and scoring. By half time the visitors had crept in front by a goal.
The third period of the game followed the same pattern as the second quarter with Bristol counter attacking and scoring on a number of occasions as Swindon continued to miss created opportunities. Despite an improved performance in the final period, Swindon had left themselves with too much to do and Bristol claimed the win by 13 goals to 11.
Scoring contributions in this encounter came from: Michal Trzeciak (5), Matt James (4), David Quinlivan and Ian Brewer (1).
International Referee Andy Allen said after the match “Swindon had by far and away the most opportunities and should have won the match comfortably. However if you miss open goals and one on one chances how can you expect to win? I know Swindon were missing a few players due to holidays and work commitments but I still expected them to pull off a win.”
