Swindon Swim Squad’s junior swimmers put on an incredible show of team swimming last weekend as they became Champions of Gala four and runners up in Gala one.
Sx3 B team produced some outstanding performances, at the Link Centre, to rocket to victory with a lead of 36 points.
The atmosphere was electric as winning swims came from Oliver Howitt – 50m Breast, Jack Patey, Samantha Reeves & Daniel Broad-Drake – 50m Back, Charlotte Brooker & James Chantler-Mayne – 50m Breast, Alex Wakeham, Madeline Easter – 50m Fly & James Bowd – 25m Back. Relay wins came from the girls 9 years freestyle and medley team of Ella Wardale, Laura Brown, Megan Campbell, Kavita Sharma & Charlotte Brooker, the boys 10 years freestyle and medley team of Jack Patey, Oliver Howitt, Alex Wakeham, Craig Harris and Connor Keye and the girls 12 years freestyle and medley team of Scarlett Walters, Rebecca Hussey, Michelle Bilko, Luisana Toner and Gemma Lucas.
By event 12 the leading points were bouncing back and forth between Seagulls and Sx3 B, but from event 13 the team never looked back and romped to a superb victory.
Final points total: Sx3 B 239, Seagulls 203, Bristol North 175, Weymouth 157, Warminster 104, Melksham 94.
Team Captains Scarlett Walters and Rory Stephens stepped up to collect the winners trophy to a rapturous applause from the team and supporters.
Meanwhile Sx3 A team were in a tumultuous battle with Ferndown Otters and Bournemouth Dolphins at Horefield in Bristol.
Led by Team Captains Charlotte Pitts and Niall Westman, at the half way mark the Swindon team were a full 20 points behind Ferndown Otters but a clear 12 points in front of Bournemouth. The swimmers and supporters were outstanding and started to close in on the leaders. Winning swims from Daniel Jones – 25m freestyle and backstroke, Aiko Takahashi – 50m backstroke x 2 and 50m butterfly, Abigail Davidson – 50m butterfly, Georgina Pitts – 50m freestyle, Charlotte Pitts – 50m breaststroke and Momoko Takahshi – 25m Back. The relay teams were very strong with the 9 years girls of Momoko Takahashi, Rebecca Maddocks, Hannah Healy, Rebecca Matthews and Zoe Gridgeman storming to victory. The 10 year boys medley team of James Watson, Connor McGilligan, Daniel Jones and Alastair Moxham and the 11 year girls of Freya Weston, Georgia Pearce, Aiko Takahashi and Georgina Pitts were also too strong for the opposition.
By the end of the gala Sx3 had come within just 9 points of Ferndown, a superb improvement on last years performance.
Final Points total: Ferndown Otters 222, Sx3 A 213, Bournemouth Dolphins 184, Yeovil 161, Southwold 134, Weston Super Mare 123.
Team Coaches Tessa Farr, Daniel Crowley, Steve Cryer and Lesley Leffers were delighted with the swimmers performances and look forward to 2010 when we can bring home both winners trophies.
