With only four weeks to go to the National Youth Championships, some long course competition was the order of the day, with the Youth qualifiers racing at the Cardiff International Open Meet.
With the swimmers still in full training, there were no great expectations on results. Despite this, backstrokers Liam Herbert and Joe Kerslake both reached finals in their 100m and 200m number one events and Herbert finally broke the monopoly of backstroke club records held by Jon Audis with a new 200m standard of 2:13.30.
Freestylers Matthew Rose and Nick Southern also reached finals in the 100m and 200m events respectively with Rose finishing a creditable fourth.
The National Youth Championships takes place at Ponds Forge, Sheffield from 28th July to 2nd August.
