Away from the comfort of heated, chlorinated water and lane ropes, four Dolphin swimmers braved the waters of Lake 32 at the Cotswold Water Park for the Wiltshire County ASA Open Water Championships.
The event has grown in popularity since its inauguration a few years ago with the 1,500m event last Wednesday attracting more than 60 swimmers aged 11 to 64 from 12 Wiltshire Clubs. Swindon Dolphin were well represented in the age group results with Helen Hanks taking gold and Dave Gingell silver, both in the masters 26-40 categories. Andrew Butler took bronze in the 12-14’s whilst 64 year old Glenys France finished a creditable 6th in her masters 41+ age group. Two weeks earlier Butler also took on the challenge of the 3,000m event taking silver in the Junior Championship
In the overall Championship, Bradford-on-Avon’s Rebecca Carling took the ladies title and John Wood from Trowbridge took the male honours with an impressive sub 19 minute swim.
