The Swindon Dolphin Presentation Night should have been an evening away from the pressures of competition and a chance to relax and celebrate the year’s achievements in the pool.
However, with the theme for the event being movie character fancy dress the competitive spirit was well and truly alive, and partygoers were seeing who could pull off the best and most outlandish outfit. Mingling with the James Bonds, Blues Brothers and St Trinians Schoolgirls were, amongst others, a couple of Smurfs, Marilyn Munroe, Mr Incredible and The Cat in the Hat. Gandhi also made a surprise appearance and put on an impressive display on the dance-floor. Despite some hot competition from a few well prepared Jokers and a very authentic Lara Croft, Gandhi also took the best fancy dress award chosen by DJ Luke Skywalker who provided the music for the evening.
The business end of the evening commenced with the presentation of Club Championships and Novice Gala medals by Chief Coach Louise Clayton and President Tessa Farr. The coveted Raynes Trophy for outstanding swimming performance was awarded to Elizabeth Beckett for reaching the 100m breaststroke semi-finals at the National Youth Championships. Progress awards went to Charlotte Pitts for working her way up to National standard over the past year, and Anthony Clark for his dedication to training throughout the season. This years Citizenship Award went to Rosie Wells, a former Dolphin swimmer, who now regularly teaches within Learn to Swim.
Special thanks go to Social Secretary Dean Fouracre and his team of helpers for again organising and running a superb evening.
