Event: South West Regional Sprints
Venue: Glouester GL1
Date: 10th July 2011
The South West Regional sprint competition took place last Sunday at the GL1 Pool at Gloucester. As usual the event attracted some good support from across the region including Swindon Dolphin.
Swimmers are required to compete in all four 50m events plus a 100m individual medley with the total FINA points from each event deciding the overall age group winners. In contrast to the largely middle distance and distance events of the recent regional long course championships, the competition provides some faster paced action from the regional standard competitors.
Kath Baker was at the hub of the action for Dolphin, winning both the 100m individual medley and the 50m breaststroke and finishing the overall competition in a creditable 2nd place in the 17 and over age group. Also winning events were Charlotte Gardo in the the 50m breaststroke and Noah Kirby in the 50m freestyle, with Gardo achiving an overall 3rd place in the girls 15 years.
Dolphin swimmers achieved a total of 14 top three finishes and had numerous personal best swims in what is always an exciting and enjoyable day of racing.
