Lizzie Starts US Swimming Scholarship

Following months of anticipation, Elizabeth Beckett has finally taken up a 3 year scholarship at Stony Brook University, New York, combining a degree in media arts with representing the university swimming team. Stony Brook Seawolves compete at the highest possible level in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division One.

In the first meet of the season, Beckett impressed her new coach, Dave Alexander, by achieving first place in the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 2:26.87 and a third place 100 yard breaststroke in 1:09.64.

Beckett earned the scholarship following a tremendously successful career as an age group and youth swimmer with Swindon Dolphin where she first learnt to swim at the age of 4. Earlier this year, Beckett made the semi-finals of the British Championships and is currently the South West Region 200m breaststroke champion at both long and short course. Prior to this, numerous national final appearances and club and county records no doubt contributed to selection for this prestigious opportunity.
