Following a successful South Zonal Championships, Craig Harris now looks forward to competing at the British Gas Swimming Championships 2012 (Selection Trials) in March. Qualification in three events not only gives the S14 swimmer the honour of being one of the first swimmers to race in the 2012 Olympic Pool, but also the opportunity of selection for the Paralympic Games themselves later this year.
Harris has also been identified by British Swimming for an international classification by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). This will take place prior to the British International Disability Swimming Championships at Sheffield in April; an event that also gives a further opportunity for qualification to the Games. Only IPC athletes are eligible to compete at recognised IPC Championships such as the European, Commonwealth, World and Paralympic Games which gives a clear indication of the potential of the few athletes selected for classification.
The busy start to the year for Harris does not look like getting any quieter. Having already been selected for the UK School Games in May and qualified for the South West Regional Age Group Championships in June, there is plenty of opportunity for the 12 year old in 2012.
