Legends open Dolphins 2018 National Medal Account at British Masters Championships – Plymouth 8-10th June 2018
Legend Squad Swimmers Nigel Masters, Jon Audis, Jo Blount & Liam Jefferies travelled to Plymouth’s Life Centre to compete in the 2018 British Masters Long Course Championships.
This competition represents the pinnacle of the Masters swimming season with the best Masters swimmers from around the country competing to secure National Titles and medals. The small team of Dolphin Legend swimmers did not disappoint and delivered a total of 5 National Titles and 9 medals in all, 5 Gold, 2 Silver & 2 Bronze, together with a multitude of season’s best efforts & life time personal bests.
Existing European Masters Champion Jon Audis dominated the backstroke events taking Gold in the Men’s 35-39yrs 50, 100 & 200m Backstroke; with some fine race skills off the walls and at the finish seeing him take the title in the 100m event by 0.2 seconds. He then reinforced his all-round swimming ability by securing Gold in the 200m IM and Bronze in the 100m Butterfly
National Masters Rookie, Liam Jefferies went to Plymouth with the desire to secure his first National Masters medal. On superb form, Liam produced a 1.2 second life time best time in the 19-24yrs 50 Freestyle of 24.60 to finish 4th, then backed this up with another life time best in the 50m butterfly of 27.12 to finish 5th.
Determined to achieve his goal, Liam produced the best 100m freestyle of his life, when it mattered, to secure silver and claim his first National Masters Medal in a time of 54.43.
Then in a very competitive 200m Freestyle with the top 5 swimmers separated by less than a second on qualifying times, Liam went one better to claim Gold with a superb demonstration of first & last 50m speed to claim victory & his first National Masters title.
At the other end of the spectrum, National Masters Veteran & European record holder Nigel Masters produced seasons best swims to claim silver in the Men’s 45-49 yrs 200m IM & Bronze in the 200m Breaststroke.
Finally, following a season of great training, Jo Blount was rewarded with season’s best swims in all her events. Finishing 5th in the 50m Breaststroke, 6th in the 100m Breaststroke & creditable 10th in the 50m Freestyle.
It was a great weekend of team & individual success and a just reward for all those who competed.
We now wish all our National Age Group Championship qualifiers all the best and hope that they can continue to add to the Dolphin National medal account 2018.
Good Luck team!!
